Is Entrupy authentication legit?

If you've shopped pre-loved luxury, you've seen "Entrupy verified" badges — and probably wondered whether that actually means anything. Short answer: yes. Entrupy is the most widely adopted technology-based authentication service in the resale industry. Here's how it works and what it does and doesn't guarantee.

What Entrupy is

Entrupy is an independent company (founded in 2012, based in New York) that authenticates luxury goods using a proprietary handheld microscope camera and machine-learning models. It isn't owned by any reseller or brand — businesses like ours subscribe to use its devices.

The device captures extreme close-up images of a bag's materials, hardware, stamping, and construction — details invisible to the naked eye. Those images are compared against Entrupy's database of millions of images from verified authentic and counterfeit items, and the system returns a verdict.

How accurate is it?

Entrupy publishes an accuracy rate above 99% for items in its supported categories. Just as important is how it errs: when the system isn't confident, it declines to certify rather than guessing — those items get flagged for further human review instead of receiving a certificate.

The verdict is rendered by algorithms trained on physical material evidence, not by someone eyeballing photos, which removes both human error and seller bias from the certification.

The financial guarantee

Eligible Entrupy certificates are backed by a financial guarantee: if an item Entrupy certified as authentic is later proven counterfeit, Entrupy compensates the buyer. That means a certified bag's authenticity is underwritten by a third party with money on the line — a fundamentally stronger promise than any seller's self-assessment.

What it doesn't cover

  • Entrupy supports specific brands and categories (major luxury houses like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, and others). Items outside the supported list can't be Entrupy-certified — which is why honest sellers only claim it where it applies.

  • It authenticates the item, not its condition — condition assessment is still the seller's job, which is why we photograph every flaw.

  • A certificate belongs to a specific item. If a listing shows a certificate, the item shipped should be the item certified — buy from sellers who photograph the exact piece.

How Gaby's Bags uses Entrupy

We're an Entrupy Verified Business. Eligible luxury pieces are scanned before they're listed, the certificate stays with the item, and our own team reviews every piece regardless of brand. Contemporary new-with-tags items (Michael Kors, kate spade, Tory Burch, Coach) are sourced directly from the brands and aren't described as Entrupy-certified unless the product page says so — supported-category luxury gets the scan.

If you ever want to see the certificate for a specific piece, just ask — service@gabysbags.com.
